How to configure a bilingual AI companion

Start here

Define when the character should switch languages. A clear rule is easier to evaluate than asking it to be bilingual without explaining the desired behavior.

What to do

  1. Pick the default language

Choose the language for ordinary conversation and specify when the second language is appropriate.

  2. Define translations

Decide whether translations should appear after every message, only on request, or only for difficult words.

  3. Test the switching rule

Try a normal message, an explicit language switch and a request to return. Keep voice testing separate.

Adapt it to your character

A starting point you can copy

Use English by default. When I write “French practice”, use French until I write “English again”. Give translations only when requested.

This is an instruction to try. It is not a guaranteed platform control.
